Muslim, can they eat well in Korea?

 Hello everyone. We are 문외한. Today we are talk about Muslims, and can they eat well in Korea? 

More and more foreigners are coming to Korea. They are coming to Korea for tourism, employment, study, and immigration. Among them, there are people who do not eat certain foods due to their religious beliefs. Representatively, they are Muslims and Jews are Jews. This week, we looked at how Muslims eat in Korea. And they also found out what they felt to live and eat in Korea.

 Below the article is the answer of a Muslim person we interviewed.

Q : Is it easy to find Halal foods in Korea?

A : no, it’s hard to find. Korea didn't seem to care about Muslims. I was going to eat salad, but some salads included meat. So I didn't eat much of them.  

Q :  Do you usually buy or cook food?

A : Mainly buy. It's annoying to cook and eat by myself.

Q : If you cook, where do you get the halal-slaughtered meat?

A : I can't say that all Muslims don't eat meat, but Most Muslims, including me, will not eat meat even if it's halal foods. So I can't answer that question. 

Q : When you buy the food in mart, do you carefully check whether the food is halal?

A : If I have to buy it, I'll check the halal foods.

Q :  Are there any people who converted their religion because they were uncomfortable with their eating life in Korea?

A : None of the people i've seen yet. 

Q : What is the most delicious Korean food to you?

 

A : Among the Korean foods I've tried, Tteokbokki is the best.

Q : What Korean food would you recommend to travelers in your country?

A : I will recommend Tteokbokki to them. Because It doesn't have any meat, and also very delicious.

Q : Do you think Muslims is uncomfortable with the food culture in Korea?

A : Yes, I think it is uncomfortable. Because we can't eat meat. So we can't eat delicious things like pork belly. And as far as I know, there are not many halal restaurants in Korea. So if you come to Korea for the first time, it will be very uncomfortable and unfamiliar.

As you know most of the famous Korean foods are made up of meat. But all Muslims can't eat foods made of meat. So we wonder if Muslims living in Korea will be able to eat famous Korean foods.

So the conclusion that we came to is Muslims are uncomfortable about Korean food culture.

But there are many delicious things without meat for example Tteokbokki, so it would be good to come on a trip to Korea.
